SAILING to the Desert | Sailing Florence around the world – Ep.130

Waves breaking into the cockpit to flat calms, Sailing 500 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean on our way to Namibia gave us quite an experience. 30 knots of wind and surfing at 10 knots in the middle of the night was balanced by a flat calm beautiful sunrise over the desert dunes. It feels amazing to be out sailing across oceans once more on our voyage around the planet. The start of a new adventure.

We have been sailing around the world for 6 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Join us as we share the highs, lows, and challenges of travelling around the world by boat, Sailing offshore across the Oceans and exploring remote locations with our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

  1. Absolutely stunning episode , as we have all become so used to. Your videography and storytelling makes for compulsory viewing. Without exception, you have become the finest sailing channel: honest, ethical, technically educational and overall totally inspirational. No fluff and bubble, just great entertainment. You two are the very best. Go well and, thank you!

  2. Fabulous episode as ever. I hope Amy’s recovery continues. Tell me, how do you film those off board scenes? I presume it isn’t the drone. It loos like you have a camera on a long pole, but do you then edit out the pole? Not a go pro for sure?

  3. The rolly polly footage reminds me why I bought a catamaran. With following seas it seems you get a rouge wave from 90 degrees that combines with the following and dumps forward up onto the stern. Seemed to get 1 per day on my last 14 day passage, probably another at night as well but wouldn't see that in the dark!!

  4. Everything about this video was first class. The photography, music, drone footage and most of all the sailing was supurb! Food looked good too! Well done Florence, well done!

  5. Another stunning episode. Sorry to hear about Amy, but “Easter” and it’s now mid-Jun? Even I felt the pang of leaving SA after your adventures there. Just as well you didn’t leave direct from Hout Bay as that would have seemed to be an even bigger single step?

  6. Quite simply fantastic !!! . As a South African, I'd like to extend my gratitude to you both for displaying the country is such a wonderful light. (both literally and figuratively). You can rest assured that you will always receive the warmest of welcomes if you ever return.
You both do a truly amazing job and I for one greatly appreciate and enjoy your efforts.
    Thank you.
